August Kranti Rajdhani Express is the fourth Rajdhani to be upgraded with Tejas Smart sleeping coaches after the Patna-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Agartala-Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express and Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.

These new rakes come with special smart functions for increased passenger safety and comfort. Smart coaches will provide passengers with world-class facilities using intelligent sensor-based systems.

It is equipped with a passenger and coach information computer unit (PICCU) with connectivity to the GSM network, which reports to the remote server. PICCU records data from WSP, CCTV recording, toilet odor sensors, panic switch and other elements built into the fire detection and alarm system, air quality sensor and throttle filter and energy meter. With the use of Tejas SMART Coach, Indian Railways aims to shift to predictive maintenance instead of preventive maintenance.

The railways have decided to gradually introduce smart coaches in all Rajdhani Express operating in the country, according to various reports. Agartala -Anand Vihar Rajdhani was the first Rajdhani to get the smart coaches, followed by Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express.

The new train will be equipped with special intelligent functions for increased passenger safety and comfort. The smart coach aims to provide world-class facilities to passengers using intelligent sensor-based systems. It is equipped with a passenger and coach information computer unit (PICCU) with connectivity to the GSM network, which reports to the remote server.

Here are the novelties of this Rajdhani Tejas Express:

-PA / PIS (Passenger Announcement / Passenger Information System): two LCD screens inside each coach display vital travel information for passengers, such as next station, remaining distance, arrival time scheduled, delays and safety related messages.

Numeric destination table: A flush-type LED digital destination map was installed on each coach dividing the displayed data into two rows. The first line displays the train number and the type of coach while the second line displays the scrolling text of the destination and the intermediate station in several languages.

-Security monitoring and surveillance: Six nos. cameras are installed in each car which gives a live recording. CCTV cameras with day-night vision capability, facial recognition even in low light conditions, network video recorder are provided.

-Automatic pick-up door: All main entrance doors are centralized and controlled by Guard. The train will not start until all doors are closed.

-Fire alarm, detection and extinguishing system: all coaches are equipped with a fire alarm system and automatic detection. The pantry and electric cars have an automatic fire extinguisher system in case of detection.

-Emergency response in case of medical or security emergency

-Improved toilet unit: Features anti-graffiti coating, gel coated shelf, new design trash can, door latch activated light, engagement display.

– Toilet occupancy sensor: automatically displays the toilet occupancy inside each coach

-Panic button in the toilet: installed in each toilet, in case of emergency.

– Integration of the toilet announcement sensor (TASI): two nos. Toilet announcement sensor integrators are installed in every car which will relay do’s and don’ts in the toilet, each time it is engaged.

-Bio-vacuum toilet system: improves hygienic conditions in the toilet with an improved flush and also saves water per flush.

-Stainless Steel Subframe: The complete frame is made of austenitic stainless steel (SS 201LN) which increases the life of the coach due to reduced corrosion.

-Bogies with air suspension: Supplied with an air spring suspension in the bogies to improve the comfort of the passengers and the quality of driving of these coaches.

– On-board condition monitoring system for bearing, wheel, to improve safety

-HVAC – Air quality measurement for air conditioning system

-Water level sensor to indicate the availability of water in real time

-Textured PVC film exterior: The exterior comes with a textured PVC film.

-Improved interiors: Fire-resistant silicone foam seats and bunks provide better comfort and safety for passengers.

– Window roller shutter: Instead of curtains, roller blinds are provided for easy disinfection.

-Mobile recharge points: provided for each passenger.

– Bunk reading light: Provided for each passenger.

– Top Bunk Climbing Layout: Convenient top bunk layout.

Meanwhile, Western Railway also decided to replace the conventional rakes with LHB rakes from train No. 22927/22928 Bandra Terminus – Ahmedabad Lokshakti Express and train No. 19031/19032 Ahmedabad – Yog Nagari Rishikesh Yoga Express. Train No. 22927/28 Bandra Terminus – Ahmedabad Lokshakti Express will run with LHB Ex Bandra Terminus trains from December 15, 2021 and Ex Ahmedabad from December 18. Train No. 19031/32 Ahmedabad – Yog Nagari Rishikesh Yoga Express will run with LHB Ex Ahmedabad rakes from December 16 and Ex Rishikesh from December 17.
