Exeter Community Library Book Sale Friends, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., 4569 Prestwick Drive, Township of Exeter. The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 9. A $ 5 bag of books, noon to 3 p.m.
Hawk Creek Apple Festival, 7 am to 5 pm, Joanna Furnis Works, Furnis Road, 3 miles north of Morgantown, Highway 10. Admission is free. Masks are optional, but visitors should maintain social distancing. A variety of dishes including Hay Creek’s famous Apple Pancake Breakfast. Historical presentation. The two-day festival includes many fascinating family activities. These family-friendly activities include scarecrow buildings, pumpkin paintings, and hay rides. Start at the Burks History Center Road Rumble, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Burks History Center, 940 Center Avenue and explore the townships of Mullenberg, Long Swamp and Alsace. The self-guided tour ends at the William Penn Fire Tower on Skyline Drive. Here, pork barbecue fundraisers are organized (at an additional cost). Pennsylvania Long Rifle or Kentucky Rifle, 2:00 p.m., Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Canton of Bern. Local historian and Revolutionary War expert Lin Otto discusses the history of the Pennsylvania long gun and the ongoing debate over the name of the Pennsylvania vs. Kentucky rifle. Otto also focused on the manufacture of firearms in Colonial America.
