Buckfast Abbey is hosting a special music preview event to launch a new CD
A former Buckfast Abbey organist is featured in a new CD coming out this month. On Sunday May 15, Buckfast Abbey in South Devon will host a launch event for a new CD which features the full organ music of Father Sebastian Wolff – a respected former organist at Buckfast Abbey.
The event has been organized to celebrate Wolff’s significant contribution to the world of organ music in the 20th century, and will take the form of a 30-minute concert recital and CD presentation in the abbey church, followed by an aperitif with Fr Sebastian in the newly renovated Schiller room of the abbey.
Father Sebastian Wolff has been a monk at Buckfast Abbey since 1948 and his name is synonymous with the Abbey’s rich musical heritage. During his tenure as organist, he forged an impressive vocation both as a solo recitalist and as a composer. His duties as organist to the community of monks in their regular cycle of prayer and liturgy, and the undeniable beauty of the abbey church, have both inspired the creation of his music over the years. This new CD recording offers a comprehensive account of his accomplishments as an acclaimed solo organist.
Starting at 4.15pm on Sunday 15 May, the short recital of works by Father Sebastian will be given by former Abbey organist Richard Lea, and offers attendees the opportunity to purchase the CD at a discounted price ahead of its release date. official release. Recording artist Richard Lea, organist at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool, was able to spend a great deal of time with Father Sebastian Wolff preparing for the recording, and the variety of musical styles and forces presented on the he recording pays homage to the composer’s kaleidoscopic output.
