Books aplenty in Hixon as an eight-foot book nook is installed in the community – Quesnel Cariboo Observer

People of all ages in Hixon can be transported to another world, without a long drive to get books from Quesnel or Prince George.

The Hixon Book Nook was recently installed by Hixon Shoppers Food Mart, located on the Cariboo Highway.

Books line the wooden shelves of the eight-foot-long white and green structure designed by Ian Kilgour.

“We’re really excited,” said Pat Suter, treasurer of the Hixon Community Association.

“It’s a bit bigger than a little library you see around the corner, but because of the number of people we have here, we thought it was okay to make it a little bigger. So we really hope it works and people bring a book and take a book.

A grant for the construction of the Hixon Book Nook was given to the association by Volunteer Terrace.

After its installation on Saturday, March 5, the association stocked its shelves with various reading materials purchased at the Friends of the Prince George Public Library book sale.

“We’ve had a lot of good feedback on this, and I hope a lot of people take good advantage of it,” Suter said.

A grand opening for the Hixon Book Nook is set to take place on Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hot chocolate, coffee and sweets will be available to take along with a book.
