AAUW Midland Branch will provide scholarship opportunities

The Midland Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has some exciting scholarship news. Historically, the Midland Branch has approved two college scholarships to four recipients each year. They are now expanding their scholarships to include support for a recipient who intends to enter the technical/business industry.

The AAUW Midland Branch “Technical/Trade School” Scholarship is awarded to women attending a trade or technical school or college in Michigan seeking a degree or certificate in the skilled or technical trades. These include, but are not limited to, welding, construction, refrigeration, heating and cooling, automotive service technology, mechanical services, plumbing, electrical, cooking and training and NAC certification. The recipient must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and provide an essay describing their interest in the intended vocation.

This is an exciting time for women in the trades and the Midland branch is excited to support women in Midland County as they work towards their technical/business vocations. This scholarship will be featured on the Midland Area Community Foundation Scholarships page. The scholarship committee will endeavor to identify five scholarship recipients this year (two for senior graduates, two for women in transition and one for technical/trades).

Funds for the scholarships are raised through AAUW’s biannual used book sale and donations from community members. These funds are administered by the Midland Area Community Foundation. For more information on these scholarships, contact Judi Cox at [email protected] or 989-302-2914.
